Platanus x acerifolia 'Yarwood' – Yarwood Planetree
2009 Theodore Klein Plant Award Winner
Platanus x acerifolia 'Yarwood' – Yarwood Planetree This selection is the most disease-resistant form* of Planetree available! This large (60’ tall) and adaptable shade tree offers beautiful exfoliating bark of bright green/white, highlighted with bits of olive and tan. Tolerant of a wide range of soils and exposures and useful as a lawn or street tree. Mike Dirr in his Manual of Woody Landscape Plants 1998 edition says "after seven years at Milliken Arboretum, it appears the best of the improved selections; fast growth, tight pyramidal outline, disease free, dark green leaves, early exfoliating,---". While a common street tree it is a big large and has large leaves for some public areas; great in parks, gardens, gold courses, places with space for a large shade tree.
