Cornus mas 'Golden Glory'

Cornus mas 'Golden Glory'

2003 Theodore Klein Plant Award Winners

Cornus mas, Corneliancherry Dogwood is one of the first plants to flower in Kentucky. The blooms are ornamental for about a month. This award winning plant adds color to the often gray and dreary winter landscape. 'Golden Glory' was introduced by Synnesvedt Nursery Company in Illinois. Cornus mas species typically grow to a height of 15- 20 feet with equal spread. The Missouri Botanic Garden plant finder site says of Golden Glory " is somewhat more erect in appearance and more vigorous than the species" and "This cultivar typically flowers more abundantly than the species". Cornus mas is hardy in zones 4 to 8. The late summer fruit, an attractive bright red drupe, are frequently covered by the foliage reducing their ornamental impact.
