Cedrus libani subsp. stenocoma
2013 Theodore Klein Plant Award Winners
Cedrus libani subsp. stenocoma (O. Schwatz) P.H. Davis is a hardy form of cedar of lebanon. Mike Dirr says all cedars are "exquisite, lovely trees" amd the Theodore Klein Plant Selection Committee agrees wholeheartedly. Hardy to zone 5 and growing to be a large tree, 40-60 feet or more with equal spread in old age. The primary use for this tree is as a spcimen tree, standing alone in stark relief. In youth <30 years it maintains a pyramidal habit (above image) that will grow wider and more architectural as it reaches its maximum height (image below). The catkins and cones add to its appearance.
