Aucuba japonica 'Longifolia'
2011 Theodore Klein Plant Award Winner
Aucuba japonica 'Longifolia' a member of the Cornaceae family is a Kentucky Theodore Klein Award winner for 2011. It is an evergreen shade loving narrowleaf (see image to right) female form of A. japonica, Japanese Aucuba or Spotted Laurel, that grows as a 6-8 foot tall rounded shrub and is hardy in Kentucky. The fall to spring persistent red fruit is attractive against the green foliage. Most A. japonica cuiltivars are known to be hardy to zone 7 but 'Longfolia' seems to perform well in Kentucky
