Calycanthus x‘Aphrodite’ - ‘Aphrodite’ sweetshrub

This hybrid between C. chinensis and C. occidentalis boasts fragrant, bright red blossoms over a notably long period in summer. It is troubled by neither deer nor clay soil, and though it blooms best with more sun it can tolerate shade. This deciduous shrub grows six to 10 feet tall and wide and it makes a nice bridge between the garden and a natural area. Zones 5–9.
